Cardinals Credit Union is a real financial institution offered to all students, faculty, staff, parents and alumni through our local credit union partner, COPFCU. Located in the Colerain High School cafeteria, Cardinals Credit Union (CCU) provides real-life financial experiences by enabling students to open and manage their own credit union accounts.  


Cardinals Credit Union – Putting money management skills into action!

CCU is operated 100% by Colerain High School students. Students apply and interview for positions such as Managers, Tellers and Marketing Representatives and gain valuable business and leadership skills including:

  • Maintaining confidentiality

  • Dealing with customers with a professional demeanor

  • Cash handling and branch balancing

  • Problem solving skills

Each year, COPFCU selects 2 Colerain High School students to work as co-ops at our Colerain Branch.  Co-ops work as Member Service Representatives, enabling them to experience the finance profession first-hand.

Scholarship Opportunities
If you’re a senior and headed for post-secondary education at a college, university, community college or technical school, we encourage you to apply for a COPFCU Scholarship. Scholarship applications are accepted between January – March of each year.


COPFCU offers five (5) scholarships totaling $15,000:

  • Irvin Specht Memorial Scholarship - $4,000

  • Emily Argo Memorial Scholarship - $4,000

  • COPFCU Bright Futures Scholarship - $4,000

  • First Runner-Up Scholarship - $1,500

  • Second Runner-Up Scholarship - $1,500

More About CCU

CCU is a result of the Northwest Local School District Financial Education Association (FEA), a partnership between Northwest Local Schools and COPFCU. CCU is just one effort of this association. Additional support is provided to NWLSD to fund financial education events including Finances 101/Adulting 101, a life-simulation that presents students with real-world financial issues which they have to solve. Educational programming is also provided through guest teaching regarding financial topics, seminars and webinars on financial education, and seminars/webinars on college admissions and funding.


All deposits with COPFCU are federally insured by NCUA (National Credit Union Administration).
