The Ohio Department of Health requires that vision and hearing screening are performed on students at specific grade levels. Students are referred for additional care if they do not pass the screening.
Vision is screened at the following grade levels: kindergarten, first, third, fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh grades.
Hearing is screened at the following grade levels: kindergarten, first, third, fifth, ninth and eleventh grades.
Postural screening is performed in accordance with the recommendations by the AAOS (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons) and SRS (Scoliosis Research Society). This screening helps identify students with curvature of the spine known as scoliosis as well as other spinal problems.
Postural screening occurs in grade seven for boys and girls.
Students are referred for additional care if a concern is noted.
In the event that a parent does not want the student participating in one or all of the screenings, the parent must contact the Health Office.
