The State Board of Education has adopted the Ohio Revised Standards in Social Studies as part of Ohio's Learning Standards for academic learning. The Kindergarten - Grade 12 standards will be fully in use in Ohio classrooms by 2014-2015.

 

Elementary

Students are instructed on grade level standards in heterogeneously grouped classrooms.Teachers use differentiated instruction to meet the academic needs and learning styles of all students. Students in 4th grade will be assessed using the 4th Grade Social Studies Ohio Computer Based Assessment at the end of the year.

Middle School

Students are instructed on grade level standards in heterogeneously grouped classrooms. Teachers use differentiated instruction to meet the academic needs and learning styles of all students.  Students in 6th grade will be assessed using the 6th Grade Social Studies Ohio Computer Based Assessment at the end of the year.

High School

Students must complete 4 full credits of Social Studies to meet the graduation requirement for Northwest Local School District.  A typical sequence is listed below with students choosing an elective to take during their senior year.  Students must take two End of Course exams, U.S. History and U.S. Government, prior to graduation.  Please see the content elaborations in the model curricula for each grade level to view material that will be tested on the End of Course exams.
