Principal's Message

August 2018

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the Houston Early Learning Center.  The teachers, staff, and I appreciate the opportunity to share your child’s early education experience with you.  I am the principal of Houston Early Learning Center and I can’t wait to see our many new faces and families and say hello to the returning families too.

We are looking forward to an amazing year of learning.  Every two weeks, your teacher will send home a newsletter explaining the focus of the week and planned activities.  Weekly lesson plans and classroom schedules are posted both inside the classroom and outside of the classroom door.  Look for opportunities to attend parent-child activities, volunteer in the classrooms, library, and computer room.

Our school is a 5-Star Awarded Preschool Program.  The State of Ohio has awarded Houston Early Learning Center a 5-Star Rating for meeting the quality standards established by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Ohio Department of Education.  Step Up To Quality is a Five-Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System created to recognize and promote early learning and development programs that meet quality standards over and above the health and safety licensing requirements.

HELC is a PBIS (Positive Behaviors Interventions Support) school.  This means we have school wide and district wide expectations which are being safe, kind, and responsible.  We implement the usage of Restorative Practices to respond to challenging behavior.  You will hear more about PBIS as you become familiar with our program.  Our goal is for your child to have a wonderful preschool experience.  Please partner with us to ensure your child grows and learns.

Curriculum Night is Thursday, September 13 from 6-7 pm.  This is an excellent time to meet your child’s teacher and engage with your child playing fun, learning activities in the classroom.  We look forward to seeing everyone at this event!

The Goals of our Program are to facilitate the growth and development of every child’s emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development;  To aid in the education and development of every child;  To stimulate children to be problem solvers;  To assist children in developing positive social relationships with a diverse group of children;  To develop positive parent-child–staff relationships;  To offer adequate activities, equipment, and materials that are developmentally age appropriate.

Sincerely,

Aimee Murray
