2018-2019 Dress Code Changes Proposed

Posted on: February 9, 2018
Over 1200 people responded to the Dress Code Survey put out in the fall. The 3 middle school principals and 2 high school principals spoke with teachers and parents to create proposed changes for the dress code that would apply to all 5 secondary schools beginning next year.
Here are the proposed items:
  1. All clothing worn by students must be appropriate for a school setting, and should not display inappropriate or offensive language, messages or images.
  2. Undergarments should not be visible. Tops that expose the midriff or chest, tank tops, mesh tops, and shirts with no sleeves are not acceptable.
  3. No hats, bandanas, head coverings (hoods), or gloves should be worn during the school day.
  4. No oversized coats are permitted during the school day.
  5. No skirts or dresses should be worn to school. Administration may approve special circumstances to wear these "dress up" items.
  6. Shorts should be an appropriate length.
  7. House shoes, slippers or shoes with heels over one inch should not be worn to school.
  8. Excessive hair color, jewelry or piercings that create a disruption to the school setting are not acceptable.
***Exceptions to these dress code items for religious reasons should be brought to administration at the beginning of the school year by parents and will require written documentation.
If you have feedback or questions, please call or email Mrs. Smith. The proposal would go to the Board of Education for approval in March.
