Northwest High School News

A Message from Mrs. Smith

Posted on: February 21, 2018
All of us at Northwest High School grieve for the tragedy that occurred at Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida last week.

On Thursday last week, we reminded students that we care deeply about them and their safety is our first priority. We take the issue of school safety very seriously, and since this tragedy happened, we have reviewed our procedures and reminded our staff of what we already have in place should a crisis occur on our campus. Keeping our students and staff safe is continuously the driving force in the decisions we make in this building and in this district. We will also be conducting routine crisis drills as we do each year so that our staff and students have strategies to use in the event of an emergency.

We need the help of our parents as well. Our motto is "If you see something, say something" and we reminded our students and staff of this last week and will continue to do so. As parents, please be diligent in checking your student's social media accounts, being aware of their mental well-being and knowing their interests and activities outside of school. If you are concerned with any aspect of your student's well-being, please call or email me as soon as possible. I assure you that I will investigate each and every one of your concerns. We have many different resources in place for our students to help in areas in which they struggle and will make these readily accessible to you and your student.

Thank you for your help in continuing to make Northwest a safe place for everyone,

Mrs. Smith
