NEW Immunization Requirements for 2016-2017 School Year

A new immunization requirement for 7th graders next school year serves as a good reminder that it's not too early to begin reviewing your child's immunization needs.

For all students entering 7th grade during the 2016-2017 school year, the Ohio Department of Health is now requiring varying doses of the meningitis vaccine. Supply and demand suggest the vaccine may be more difficult to obtain over the summer, so Northwest nurses are recommending you fulfill this requirement as soon as possible.

  • 7th Grade Requirement:  One dose of the MCV4 (Meningococcal) vaccine by the start of the 2016-2017 school year. This is an addition to the Tdap (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) booster vaccine that is already required of seventh-graders.

Immunizations are an important part of public health and keeping your child healthy and safe from life-threatening diseases. Ohio law requires students and children that attend school be immunized against certain preventable diseases. Verification of your child's complete immunization record must be on file with Northwest Local Schools within 14 days of the first day of school.

Immunization questions and documentation can be directed to any Northwest nurse.
