Colerain Elementary Update

June 5, 2024

Colerain Elementary and Colerain Middle Staff and Families,

We want to keep you informed about the current updates that have been put in place regarding the Colerain Elementary building. As you are aware, NWLSD has also been working closely with architects, engineers as well as the Colerain Township Fire Department and Hamilton County Building Department to determine how to mitigate the compromised area of the building.

On June 4, 2024, contractors began to remove portions of the building’s brick facade to do further analyses in order to provide options for mitigating the damaged area (See photo.) Additional precautionary measures were also taken to protect the building from further damage:

  1. Weatherproof material has been put over the affected area that hangs from the top of the school building in an effort to limit the building’s exposure to weather. The material will create a barrier to prevent water damage.

  2. Protective window coverings have been added to prevent damage to the glass.

Community members may have noticed that the fencing surrounding the building on Springdale Rd. was damaged early last week. Based on camera footage captured from the exterior of the building, we were made aware that a car ran into the fencing before departing. There was no damage done to the building itself. We did notify Colerain Police, however, we have not been able to determine the owner of the vehicle at this time. They are still investigating the matter. Since that time, the District has been able to replace the damaged fence.
