2024 Ohio RISE Award Winner!

The 2024 Ohio Rise Award Winner!

Congratulations to Mrs. Diana Israel, who is the 2024 Ohio Rise Award Winner!

Congratulations to Mrs. Diana Israel, who was selected as the 2024 Ohio Rise Award Winner by the Ohio Department of Education. The Recognizing Inspirational School Employees (RISE) Award was created by Congress in 2019 and overseen by the U.S. Department of Education.  This award honors classified school employees who provide exemplary service to their school communities. Mrs. Israel will continue on to the National selection process which will be held in November 2024.

Mrs. Israel serves as an Intervention Assistant at Struble Elementary in Northwest Local School District. She supports students and teachers in Grade 4 and Grade 5 by working within the classroom and/or pulling small groups for targeted skill work and/or intervention.

Her one-on-one and small group support helps our students improve their skills in subjects such as math, reading, and writing. Her ability to understand where a student currently stands and her dedication to providing the individualized attention that each student needs is crucial in helping our students reach their academic potential.

Mrs. Israel has shown herself to be a leader and a visionary within the building in various ways:

In the classroom, Mrs. Israel has been phenomenal in identifying students who need early interventions to prevent students from falling further behind. She has worked alongside staff, students and families to implement strategies to help them catch up, progress monitor their academic data, and prevent long-term academic challenges. The outcomes of her work have not only led to academic improvements, but also boosts confidence and self-esteem in students who have been impacted by the positive reinforcements that have been implemented.

In leadership, Mrs. Israel serves as a building representative for two district teams, the Classified Employee Management Council and the Ohio Partnership for Excellence in Paraprofessional Preparation (OPEPP) to serve as a voice for all classified staff members. Mrs. Israel’s presence on the following committees is vital, granting her direct access to decision-making, to act as a liaison between classified staff and the administration to facilitate effective communication. This helps in conveying information, policies, and changes that affect classified staff members and ensures that their concerns, needs, and perspectives are heard and considered in decision-making processes.

In 2022, Mrs. Israel’s leadership role within the school was recognized when she was awarded the PTA Friend of Children Award and was named Struble’s Classified Staff Member of the year!

When it comes to enhancing positive images with the school building, Mrs. Israel makes sure that every student, regardless of race or culture, is celebrated for who they are.  As the leader and founder of Struble Elementary’s Multicultural Club, Mrs. Israel brings students together to learn about the people and the world around them. Founded in 2022, the Multicultural Club’s focus is to promote awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures. Students in Grades 3-5 are selected through a nomination process, and meet weekly after school to learn about different cultures and to plan ways to share this information with Struble’s students and staff members. Morning announcements, student presentations, a monthly cultural dress day, and an art “auction” are highlights that are highly anticipated and planned by student members!

With all that Mrs. Israel brings to the table, it is no wonder that she is well-respected by all students, staff members, and families. She continues each day to be a positive presence in the building and a valued member of our Struble Elementary and Northwest Local School District family.
