Superintendent Update on False Threat; PRE & PRM to Close on 11/3/22

November 2, 2022 at 2:50 p.m.

Dear Northwest Parents/Guardians:

We wanted to update you on the false threat at Pleasant Run Middle School today.

The Colerain Police Department received a call at approximately 8:30 a.m. threatening an active shooter at Pleasant Run Middle School. The police responded immediately and reached out to school officials. The district followed our safety protocols and put both Pleasant Run Elementary and Pleasant Run Middle School on lockdown. The remainder of our schools in the district also went on lockdown.

After police arrived and determined the threat was false, they conducted a thorough sweep of both PRE and PRM and determined the buildings were safe, and the lockdown could be lifted. Parents were permitted to take their children home early and were contacted with instructions on picking them up from these buildings.

The Colerain Police Department is still investigating to determine the call's origin. We appreciate the quick response of our staff, the Colerain Police Department, and other law enforcement departments who also assisted.

In order to support our staff and students at these buildings, we are closing Pleasant Run Elementary and Pleasant Run Middle School on Thursday, November 3. This time will enable staff to meet and prepare how we will support our students to help process this situation. The district will have extra counselors at both PRE and PRM on Friday, November 4. All of our schools have counseling staff to help support your children if they need assistance.

Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work together as a school community to keep our schools safe. Always remind your children that if they see something, to say something.

Sincerely,

Darrell Yater

Superintendent

Northwest Local School District
