NWLSD LAUNCHES STATE RECOGNIZED PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

Northwest Local School District (NWLSD) has officially received a certificate of recognition for the launching of its State Recognized Pre-Apprenticeship Program, which helps students learn job-readiness skills. Students in the program have an opportunity to gain work-based learning experience through quality internships with Registered Apprenticeship participating employers. Participants are also granted the opportunity to discover careers of interest, all while becoming lifelong learners as they master the understanding of balancing education and employment. The program is not only beneficial to student growth; it also aligns with the Ohio Department of Education's graduation requirements.

“We are thrilled to offer our students this opportunity through the Pre-Apprenticeship Program, said Brenda Miller, NWLSD’s Director of Curriculum. “We know it will allow academic lessons to come to life through real world experience and mentorship. This work will continue to help students make informed decisions about college, career, and enlistment options.”

Collaborative business partnerships are already unfolding at both of the District’s high schools through monthly Lunch & Learns, Advisory Panel discussions, and Career Fairs. These events put both Colerain and Northwest High School students at the table with local businesses, allowing them to ask questions about the companies, discover their best pathway to gain the knowledge and experience for their desired career, and create a professional network ready to welcome them into the workforce.

In addition to the benefits this brings students, participating employers that support this initiative, get the opportunity to attract the best talent into their workforce through exposure and experience to the diverse occupations in their industry. They will get to see firsthand the high quality students and leaders within NWLSD.

“We could not be more excited to offer this opportunity to all students that are seeking a high quality pathway to the workforce,” said Miller.
