Important Information for Parents

REMOTE LEARNING 11/23 - 12/4 

With the recent increase of community COVID-19 cases rising, and our recent staff shortages, we have decided to temporarily work remotely starting Monday, November 23 until December 4, 2020. As we look at numbers, we recognize the importance of increasing our window of time to allow symptoms to develop for any staff or students who may have been exposed during the break. Staff and students who are symptom-free will return to school on December 7, 2020. At that time, we will return to our current learning models of in-person and remote. 

 

Please note, information regarding school work and assignments will be communicated by each student’s teacher through their Google Classroom.  Students already working remotely should continue to submit their attendance each week through the district’s Remote Attendance Log.

 

 

HOME INTERNET ACCESS

NWLSD has the ability to assist families who need internet service at home.  We need families to notify us and give us permission to share their information with the providers to see if we can attempt to place an order with Spectrum/Cincinnati Bell or assign a hotspot.

 

We will try our best to set families up with a home connection. Any NWLSD family that does NOT have a home connection is considered ELIGIBLE.   Services will be paid for by the Northwest Local School District for the 2020-21 school year as long as the State Connectivity Grant funds exist.

REMOTE LEARNING SCHEDULE FOR MON 11/30 & TUES 12/1

  • NWLSD had previously announced remote learning for Mon 11/30 and Tues 12/1, and both high schools put together a specific schedule for these two days.

  • All teachers and students will follow their “bell schedule” for all classes in which they are enrolled in Google Classroom or Edgenuity.

  • Teachers will begin live via Zoom at the start of each bell and students will log in and join these sessions each day. Please take attendance and record for future reference.

  • Zoom sessions will be live and will focus on providing instruction and/or explanation of assignments and learning objectives for the coming week.

  • Students will join live Zoom meetings for each class on their schedule. This will require them to log into several different Zoom meetings at specific times throughout the day. 

  • Attendance will be taken by the instructor and students previously working remotely should also submit their attendance via the district’s Remote Attendance Log.

  • Teachers will post information and links in Google Classroom, and students should only log in to classes during bells where they have a specific Google Classroom (some classes, like Study Hall or Study Skills, will not have a Google Classroom and so students will not need to log in). 

  • Students with classes in Edgenuity (KSA, credit recovery) should work in those classes during the corresponding bell(s) on the schedule; for example, if a student has KSA for bells 1-3 on their schedule, they should work in Edgenuity from 8:10 - 10:00 on these days.  Teachers will be available via Zoom during these assigned bells for assistance and to monitor attendance.

  • Students in a Butler Tech program will log in with all of their teachers during the scheduled bells for their program. This will mean that students will be in the same Zoom meeting for an extended period of time.

  • Schedules on Remote Learning Days outside of Mon 11/30 and Tues 12/1 will be less structured and students should look in Google Classroom for specific meeting times and opportunities with their teachers.



FOOD DISTRIBUTION INFORMATION--ACTION REQUIRED BY SUN 11/22 AT 12:00 PM

NWLSD will provide an additional meal pick-up opportunity for students on Monday, November 23, from 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM. This pick-up is open to all Preschool through 12th grade students, and includes all in-person and remote learners. Families will be able to pick up 10 breakfast and 10 lunch meals.  

 

Parents will need to submit the Meal Service Request Form. Packaged meals will not be prepared if a Meal Service Request Form is not submitted by Sunday, November 22nd at NOONAll meals will need to be picked up on Monday, November 23, from 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM at: Taylor Elementary, 3173 Springdale Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45251

 

 

SAFETY AND HEALTH CONCERNS 

We encourage our families during this time to be safe. As reported, the number of community cases are rising due to small gatherings. Please take measures to protect you and your families’ bubble by practicing social distancing, wearing your masks and making every effort to perform good hand hygiene. Please remember, with or without a mask, you must remain six feet apart and keep your personal bubble safe. Dining out or riding in a car with others are some of the leading causes of contracting COVID-19 or causing others to be quarantined. While we understand that we cannot control what takes place outside of school, we ask that you are mindful and take precautions to keep you and your family safe. If you or your child begin to notice symptoms during and/or after Fall Recess, please consult your doctor. We encourage you to get tested. Once you and your child(ren) have been tested, please notify us by calling the attendance line at 742-7118. We thank you in advance for your commitment and collaboration in helping keep our staff and students safe. We understand and accept that we cannot fully eliminate all risks, but we can reduce them.
