Coronavirus Update

NWLSD Staff, Parents and Community Members,

At this time we are working with our District leaders and are closely monitoring information surrounding COVID-19. We are currently meeting to map out a plan should any cases arise within our District. As decisions are made, we will be sure to educate and inform our parents and staff on how we plan to move forward.  At this time, no students or staff members have been diagnosed and there are no suspected or confirmed cases within any of our schools.

Northwest Local School District is making every effort to make sure that we create an environment where learning always continues, regardless of the circumstance. This week we sent out a parent survey asking parents to identify whether their child has access to the internet in their homes. We are taking steps to make sure that students can access their work on their chromebooks and computers if schools may be closed, and to have a better understanding of the best ways to provide learning materials for those who do not have access to the internet.

On Friday, March 13th, our staff will use their professional development day to prepare learning materials and packets should the school district close for an extended period.

While information about the Coronavirus is rapidly developing, we are working closely with local, state and federal health officials. Based on information that we received from the State Health Commissioner, we expect to be given directions on how schools in Ohio are to proceed as the number of cases increase throughout the State.

Please do not lose sight of the tips and tools that you have been given to stay healthy. We cannot stress the importance of handwashing with soap and water. This is the BEST method of prevention to combat respiratory illness, like the Coronavirus. If you are exhibiting flu-like symptoms (see resource below for list of symptoms) please stay home.

We strongly encourage you to use the precautions recommended by the Ohio Department of Health every day to fight against common and contagious illnesses:

  • Frequently wash your hands for 20 seconds or more with soapy water. If unavailable, use hand sanitizer.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.

  • Stay home when you are sick (except to visit a health care professional) and avoid contact with others.

  • Cover your mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.

  • Get adequate sleep and eat well-balanced meals to promote a healthy immune system.
