NWLSD IS OFFERING FREE PARENTING CLASSES
Northwest Local School District (NWLSD) is partnering with Village Empowerment Community Services (VECS) organization for a fourth school year, to offer an intensive 10-week long parenting class entitled Loving Solutions. Loving Solutions is a parent-training program designed specifically for parents raising difficult younger children, ages 5-10 years. Also known as “Parent Project®, Jr.,” this program utilizes the same principles found successful in Parent Project® Sr., adapted to the needs of younger children. Loving Solutions is a concrete, concise resource for parents struggling to meet the needs of the strong-willed Elementary age child.
Using a behavioral model, Loving Solutions is structured to address the critical issues parents/caregivers face today and offers step-by-step solutions. The curriculum is interactive and builds on learned skills each week. Parents/caregivers will be given the opportunity to work in groups to brainstorm, practice applying new ideas, and build support. Strategies learned in the group will better prepare parents/caregivers to support their child’s social and emotional development.
The program is completely FREE to all parents and caregivers of elementary students in the NWLSD community. Participation is mandatory and classes will be closed after the second week. Childcare (all ages) and dinner will also be provided on a weekly basis.
Families that participate in these workshops will:
• Learn ways to reduce family conflict
• Increase students school attendance rates
• Help students improve school performance
• Find resources to help your family
