Veteran who received diploma

During its May 19, 2025 meeting, the Northwest Board of Education presented Vietnam War Veteran Thomas Ludwick with a long-overdue high school diploma.

Mr. Ludwick, a former student at Colerain High School, made the courageous decision to leave high school during his junior year of high school to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In recognition of his service and sacrifice, the Northwest Local School District presented him with his high school diploma more than 50 years after he answered the call of duty.

“The Board of Education and district leadership are deeply honored to recognize Mr. Ludwick’s commitment to our country,” said Superintendent Darrell Yater. “It is never too late to say thank you and to give our Veterans the recognition they deserve.”

Mr. Ludwick left Colerain High School in 1967 to join the Army. He went on to receive:

  • National Defense Service Medal

  • Vietnam Service Medal

  • Bronze Star Medal

  • Army Commendation Medal

  • Combat Infantry Badge

  • Sharp Shooter Badge

Under a provision by the State of Ohio, school districts are permitted to award high school diplomas to Veterans who left high school prior to graduation to serve in the armed forces. This special presentation is a part of Northwest Local School District’s continued commitment to honoring those who have made extraordinary sacrifices in service of others.

Congratulations, Mr. Ludwick, and Thank You for your Service!
