Northwest Local School District is proud to announce that Houston Early Learning Center (HELC) has earned the Ohio PBIS Bronze Award for its strong and effective implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. It’s a schoolwide approach that helps students learn expected behaviors the same way they learn reading or math — through clear teaching, positive reinforcement, and consistent support.
Instead of focusing on punishment, PBIS uses a proactive and positive approach. Schools teach routines and expectations, celebrate students for meeting them, and create supports to help every child succeed. When done well, PBIS can reduce discipline issues and increase instructional time, creating a more welcoming and predictable environment for all students.
"Our staff has worked really hard to consider and meet the needs of our students at HELC. The system we created and implemented has strengthened learning at every level and better prepared students for Kindergarten. We're so proud to see how much our students are benefitting," said Megan Alford, HELC Principal.
Congratulations to the Houston Early Learning Center team on this outstanding accomplishment!
