Knights Read Across America

Knights Read Across America

We are excited to announce that the Northwest High School Book Club has been awarded a grant from the OEA Educational Foundation to support our mission to promote literacy and act as reading role models to younger students throughout the Northwest Local School District. We made our first visit to Pleasant Run Elementary a little over a year ago to celebrate Read Across America Day. This visit was such a success that we were inspired to plan more literacy events to share our love of reading. This grant will allow us to expand our reach, bring more great books to our friends at the elementary and middle schools, and celebrate Read Across America throughout the 25-26 school year.

Read Across America has grown from a single day celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss on March 2nd to a yearlong celebration of reading for kids of all ages. Each month features books on a common theme for children, middle grade, and teen readers. Through the OEA Educational Foundation grant, the Book Club will develop activities that celebrate the themes in the books and the unique identities of our student population. The books will be donated to the school libraries after the event so teachers and students can continue to enjoy them.
