About Northwest

There are approximately 1065 students who attend Northwest High School in grades 9-12. Our four-year graduation rate is over 95%. We offer 14 Advanced Placement courses as well as 15 College Credit Plus courses. Our passage rate for courses is 94% each quarter, and we have many support systems in place to help students be successful. We have a partnership with Butler Tech and offer Cosmetology, Digital Media, Financial Services, Construction, Business, and Sports Medicine programs right on our campus! Our students are eligible for Butler Tech programs at Colerain High School and off-campus as well. Almost 70% of students are involved in an extracurricular activity, and we encourage all students to get involved; there are many ways to stay connected with your peers at Northwest.

Important Information to Know Before Your First Day

School begins at 7:40 am and students are dismissed at 2:30 pm each day.

By 2:40 all students are expected to exit the building or be with their supervised afterschool activity

Our students have a seven-bell schedule.

Students must check in at the attendance office if arriving late, or leaving early

Force Failure: Students can be failed by a teacher if they have more than 9 unexcused absences from any class in the semester

Breakfast is available for all students to purchase.

Students have a 30-minute lunch. Federal lunch program forms are available through the district’s online registration portal.

Students may not order or receive deliveries during the school day

Our campus consists of two buildings, the main campus and the career center.

The district does not provide busing/transportation for students. Parking passes for students are available for purchase in our Career Center Office.

Students will be provided a YONDR bag in which their phone should be placed and locked in before entering school.

Technology/cell phones

All students grades 9-12 will be assigned a Chromebook and charger in the fall. Students are not permitted to bring their own devices to use during school. Please reference NWLSD’s district BYOD policy. All students will have a school email assigned to be used for educational purposes.

*Cell phones, bluetooth devices, headphones, tablets and other electronic devices are not permitted from 7:40-2:30

Supply Lists

During the first week of school, each teacher will let students know what is needed for classes. It is best to purchase a binder/folder for each class, along with writing utensils and notebooks to be prepared.

Information from the Athletic Department

If you are interested in participating in athletics, you must be eligible through the Ohio High School Athletic Association. We have competitive programs that have high expectations of our student-athletes. Please contact our Athletic Coordinator, Lee Johnson - djohnson@nwlsd.org

Student Dress Code

All clothing worn by students must be appropriate for a school setting and should not display inappropriate or offensive language, messages, or images.

Undergarments should not be visible. Tops that expose the midriff or chest, tank tops, mesh tops, and shirts with no sleeves are not acceptable.

No hats, bandanas, head coverings (hoods), or gloves should be worn during the school day.

No oversized coats are permitted during the school day.

Shorts, skirts, and dresses should be an appropriate length and should be mid-thigh and not overly revealing.

No pajamas, house shoes, slippers, or shoes with heels over one inch should be worn to school.

Excessive hair color, jewelry, or piercings that create a disruption to the school setting are not acceptable.

***Exceptions to these dress code items for religious reasons should be brought to the administration at the beginning of the school year by parents and will require written documentation.
