At Northwest Local School District, we use a variety of technology tools to support teaching, learning, and assessments. You received an official notice in your email inbox this week with all of the details required under Ohio law, but we want to provide a simpler overview here so you can quickly understand what this means for your family.
Our priority is to make sure classroom technology helps students learn while protecting their privacy and educational records. Families can feel confident that providers are carefully reviewed and must follow all state and federal privacy laws.
Key Points Families Should Know
What This Means: Some technology providers we contract with may create, receive, or maintain student education records (for example, when students use a district-issued app or device).
Privacy First: By law, these providers cannot use student data for commercial purposes or share it outside of their contract with NWLSD.
Careful Review: Every provider contract is reviewed by the district to ensure compliance with laws such as FERPA, COPPA, CIPA, the ADA, and state privacy codes.
Transparency: A full list of NWLSD’s curriculum, testing, and technology providers - including what student records are affected and how to access contracts - is available online in this spreadsheet.
