NWLSD Night at the Ballpark
ICYMI: Over the weekend, members of our NWLSD family came together to celebrate Carson, an HELC preschooler, at the Buddy Walk! The Buddy Walk is one of the nation’s largest fundraisers supporting individuals with Down Syndrome. 🚶🙌

Carson’s family provided t-shirts for classmates to wear in his honor, and his bright, joyful spirit continues to light up HELC. Bravo, Carson! 👏❤️💙

Last week, we celebrated the start of another year of Kids in School Rule! (KISR)—a collaboration with Hamilton County Job & Family Services and the Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati. KISR! ensures that education is a high priority for students in foster care and puts them on the path to academic success and high school graduation. It supports students in foster care with additional resources like incentives, enrichment, and tutoring.

Nationally, only 58% of students in foster care graduate from high school. Last year, 91% of the KISR! students at NWLSD graduated!

We recognized some of the KISR liaisons, counselors, and administrators that make this program a success with the KISR GOAT awards🐐:
- Rae Lawson
- Samantha Hudson
- Virginia “Ginnie” Schueler
- Special Education Department
- Struble Elementary team

Every day, extraordinary things happen in our classrooms—but not without passionate educators who go above and beyond! 📚

In Mrs. Frederick’s first year teaching AP Government at CHS, about 80% of her students scored a 3 or higher on the AP exam! Their class average outpaced Ohio and global scores, and 11 students earned a perfect 5! ✋

She even built a Wall of Fame to honor student achievement. We're excited that she's teaching the class again this year. Thank you, Mrs. Frederick, for challenging, celebrating, and believing in your students! 🙌

At Monfort Heights Elementary, Kindergarteners kicked off their school journey with a little magic and a lot of imagination! 💚

Each student started with a plain ball of Playdoh. Together, classes read a poem that sparked their creativity, then each child made a wish and poured their hopes into the Playdoh. When they squished their balls, the colors transformed, like their wishes taking shape! And the excitement was seen in on every student's face!🌈✨

NWLSD will once again partner with Colerain Township First Responders and the Hamilton County Communications Center to conduct critical incident training aimed at strengthening school safety and emergency preparedness. The trainings will take place on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Northwest High School.

THE TRAININGS ARE NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

To create a realistic training environment, simulated gunfire using blank rounds will be used, and emergency vehicles and personnel will be on-site throughout the day. Community members should not be alarmed by their presence.

“This training is an essential part of our commitment to keeping students, staff, and our community safe," said Darrell Yater, Superintendent of Northwest Local School District.
