Colerain High School senior, Matthew S. Sparks, completed his Eagle Scout award, under unit leader Mike Riede, in Unit 710.
In the fall of 2016, Matthew planned and carried out his Eagle Scout project, which is a core requirement to earning the Eagle Scout rank with the Boy Scouts of America. The name of the project was “Beautification of the Kremer Commons at Colerain High school”. Kremer Commons is a place where students socialize with friends and wait for a ride home from a day of school. Matthew's project in the beautification of the Kremer Commons was replacing 108 boards from 64 benches and painting them boards red. The project took two days to complete with the help of 22 workers and a total of 127 work hours. The Commons are now an enjoyable place for people to socialize after school.
Matthew has been in the Northwest School district all of his life. He attended Colerain Elementary, Colerain Middle and Colerain High School. Matthew stated that he wanted to do something related to school and the community it serves. Matthew would gather with friends at Kremer Commons and noticed that it was in bad shape. He choose this project because he wanted to give back to his school and community.
