Dear Colerain Families,

I hope all of you had a wonderful summer and are ready to get back to school. We have had some changes in staff for this school year.

Please join me in welcoming the following staff to the Colerain Family.

Amanda Mattox- Intervention Specialist
Kirsten Beatty- School Guidance Counselor

I want to thank our office staff, Mrs. Harper and Mrs. Erhardt, for all of their hard work in getting students scheduled, supplies ordered, and many other jobs they have done over this very busy summer.

I also want to thank our custodial team at CE, Mr. Howard, Mr. Emmert, and Mr. Hacker for assisting the custodial teams in getting not just our building ready for staff and students but also all the other buildings throughout the district.

I also want to thank Mrs. Helmes for all of her hard work in working on schedules and sitting in on meetings throughout the summer in order to ensure the students and teachers are set up for success.

We are extremely excited for our grades 3-5 students this year. The district has adopted a new ELA Series from National Geographic. The series aligns well with the state standards and the needs of our students. Our K-2 students were using the new series last year.

I am very excited to share that we will be able to provide interventions and enrichment for both reading and math in grades K-5 this school year. We have a wonderful intervention team consisting of our Reading and Math Specialists and our Intervention Specialists.  Students who qualify will be getting intense interventions to help them grow academically.

Also, I wanted to let you know the changes we have put into place to increase the safety and security of our students. We have relocated our playground to a fenced in area behind the school building.

We also have hired a full-time school counselor that will be on site daily. Her name is Kirsten Beatty. She will be working with students on social skills, and working with teachers and students in the classrooms, as well as networking with the community for services for our students and families. We are very excited to have her in the building full time this year.

We had several staff members who came in over the summer and painted some positive messages on the walls in the hallways and in the cafeteria. We also had a slogan contest over the summer to represent the positive culture we want to have in the building this school year. Be sure and check out the new slogan as you walk up the main staircase towards the office. That same slogan will be on the back of our staff t-shirts for this school year as well.

Finally, I want to inform all of you that we will continue to provide the best instruction possible for OUR students at Colerain Elementary. We will continue to keep safety and security at the utmost highest level for OUR students at Colerain Elementary. If at any time you need to talk or discuss concerns, do not hesitate to contact me at 385-8740. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year and am very excited to see the students in the building.

We hope to see everyone at our PTA Open House/Meet the Teacher night this Thursday, August 16th from 3:30-5:00. You can sign up for the PTA, Girl Scouts/Cub Scouts, etc. Also, we would love to see everyone at the CE/CMS PTA Stricker’s Grove event on August 31 from 5-10:00 PM. More details will be coming soon.

Have a great year!

Mr. Climer
