Dear Parents,

On behalf of the staff at Colerain Middle School I would like to welcome everyone to the 2017-2018 school year!  I hope that everyone has had a relaxing and enjoyable summer and are ready for an exciting and productive school experience.   Over the past 2 years, I have had a chance to meet many of you and your children, and look forward to continue building a strong partnership with all of you because a strong partnership will make a great difference in your child’s success.

This year CMS is becoming a 1:1 building.  All students will receive a chromebook for daily instructional use in the classroom.  To help prepare for this the staff has had 2 years of technology related professional development and have been working hard learning new technology applications designed to enhance the learning process.  The staff is very excited about this new opportunity and I am sure you and your students will see the benefits of utilizing technology in the classroom.

We will also be in year 2 of being a Making Middle Grades Work (MMGW) building.  There will be 4 focus teams this year:  Parent Engagement, School Climate, Technology and Guidance/Advisory.  All teachers and administrators are contributing members of the focus teams and are committed to creating an action plan that supports 1 or more of the MMGW 10 key practices.  The combination of these committees will allow for CMS to help your child grow socially, emotionally and academically.

Lastly, the CMS staff will dedicate much of their time researching in incorporating the “4 C’s” into the classroom.  Along with an increased use of technology teachers will be working with your students to improve their Communication and Collaboration skills.  They will also provide them with more opportunities to be Creative as well as put them in situations where they are asked to be Critical thinkers and problem solve real world situations.  I am very excited about this new initiative and firmly believe that it will yield positive results.

If you ever have any questions feel free to contact me on my direct line 513-385-8490 ext. 4804 or email me at estyles@nwlsd.org.  I encourage you to sign up for our parent communication emails as well as friend us on Facebook so you can be updated on upcoming events and important information that relates to Colerain Middle School.  Directions are posted on the school website.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Styles
