C-STEM Teacher of the Year

Colerain Middle School teacher, Julie Norris, was awarded the C-STEM Teacher of the Year Award at the C-STEM conference at UC Davis, California on November 4, 2017. C-STEM Teacher of the Year  Awards recognize C-STEM
teachers for their exceptional contributions in teaching computing, integrating computing into STEM subjects, and inspiring students to pursue careers and post-secondary study in C-STEM fields. Award recipients are selected by the C-STEM Awards Committee consisting of the university  faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students.  Julie is one of 7  teachers countrywide to receive this distinction.  She received certificates of merit from UC Davis, the California Dept. of Education and the California Legislature.

Northwest Local School District's Curriculum Supervisor, Leslie Silbernagel, was awarded the C-STEM Administrator of the Year Award at the annual C-STEM conference at UC Davis, California on November 4, 2017.  C-STEM Administrator of the Year Awards recognizes C-STEM schools, districts, and county administrators for their strong leadership in
supporting integrated computing and STEM education through systematic implementation of C-STEM program school, district, and county wide. Award recipients are selected by the C-STEM Awards Committee consisting of the
university faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students. C-STEM Administrator of the Year Nomination Application.  Leslie was one of three administrators to earn this award.  She received certificates of merit from
UC Davis, the California Department of Education and the California Legislature.

Also of note, former Northwest High School Grad (class of 1979), Jennifer Curtis, is the Dean of the College of Engineering at UC Davis. Dean Curtis stated that she never would have considered engineering as a profession as
there were so few women in the field at that time, except that a Northwest High School counselor told her she should would be good at it. Dr. Curtis gave an opening speech at the conference and was excited to hear that Northwest has implemented the C-STEM program in the Northwest Local School District.
