Advisory Changes

I want to inform you of a change to our daily bell schedule that will result in many new opportunities for your student. We are going to have a 20 minute advisory period daily between second and third bell. Your student will be assigned to a grade-level advisory with one of our teachers and approximately 20 other students.

Each day of the week will have a different purpose:

Monday - Restorative Circle activities - concerning social issues, character building, life skills to be successful and creating a culture of community with our peers

Tuesday - Test Prep Skills - OCBA and ACT Test Preparation including helping students develop better writing skills based on data we have about our students

Wednesday - College and Career Readiness Skills - We want each student to have an individual success plan for high school and for after graduation. We will use the Naviance program to create these plans and for students to complete career interest surveys as well as learn financial skills to be able to manage their own money.

Thursday - Advisor Conferences - Students will meet with their advisory teachers to set and monitor goals concerning academics and attendance as well as learn time management, organization and strategies to be successful in these areas.

Friday - Team Building and Group Meetings - Your student will have the opportunity to attend meetings for the clubs and organizations for which they are members so they aren’t pulled out of class time for these meetings.

High school is all about relationships and learning to be successful after graduation. We want to use this time during each day to instill skills students need to be successful in life, and to build relationships with our staff and their peers. We are looking forward to improving the culture through this program.

Thank you for your support of our new initiative, and if you have questions, please do not hesitate to call me.
