Standing United Against Racism, Hatred and Violence

NWLSD Parents, Students and Staff: 


Over the past week, we have been reminded of the challenges that plague our nation’s past and present.  As tensions rise across our nation, know that NWLSD is here for you and our community.

As a district, we stand with our minority communities in solidarity, united against any and all acts of racism, hatred and violence. Nearly 50% of our students identify as African-American or as a minority; their lives, well-being, health and safety are valuable. NWLSD is made of many diverse groups; we know that within our diversity, lies our strength. Early last year, we established five core values within our Strategic Plan, one of those values was Equity and Diversity. We stand strong on our commitment to develop cultural competency that embraces diversity, ensures inclusivity, and creates equitable opportunity for all.  

As we navigate these difficult times, we know that many of our students may need support as they navigate through their thoughts, questions and concerns. As parents, we understand that you are on the front end of addressing our nation’s concerns with your children; we have provided resources below to help you engage in these challenging conversations. 

To our staff, understand that now, more than ever, we must take the time to listen and to engage one another in meaningful conversation in order to be a catalyst for change. We encourage each of you to listen in order to seek understanding and with sincerity.  As we move forward, take joy in knowing that we do it together, as one unified group.   

We remain hopeful that our nation will heal.
