NWHS Social Studies Teacher in Action!

History Teacher Joe Flickinger utilizes his flipped classroom as a way to teach about the Haitian Revolution in the early 1800’s to his AP World History students.  Flickinger uses a tool called Screencast o matic, which allows him to record his lectures as if he were in person.  The recordings are available for students to complete anytime by due dates chosen by the teacher.  The students complete a cornell notes digital template, where they not only write out the notes, they have a column where questions are asked of the teacher(and the teacher responds back when reviewing the work), and the students are also asked to summarize their notes session in a paragraph.  Flickinger utilizes this method across all of his History Courses, which includes AP European History, CCP Western Civilization II, as well as American History.  “This method allows me to continue to interact with my students, whether they are in person, or virtual as if a typical class were still taking place”, stated Flickinger.
